Employee Volunteerism

We encourage our employees to give their time to worthwhile causes. We give them the resources to assist them as they make a difference and meet critical needs in the communities where we do business. This includes extensive time and organized support by us for causes such as blood drives by the American Red Cross, toy drives to support the U.S. Marines Toys for Tots, food drives for multiple food banks and the Race for the Cure.

It also includes hands-on volunteering. Employees of our Kansas City Power & Light District, for example, put our principles into action by serving as volunteer readers to young students at a local elementary school, as part of a program to encourage core foundational reading schools.

As another example, The Cordish Foundation was the lead donor for a Judith P. Hoyer Early Child Care and Family Education Center at Arlington Elementary School, a public school in Baltimore, Maryland. The Center provides comprehensive, integrated, full-year services that promote school readiness for children birth through age six. The Cordish family volunteers in activities at the Center and the school.
